Habrás de ir a la guerra que empieza hoy

“A mi querido hermano Manolo, con la añoranza de los años y la distancia”.
This handwritten dedication in an origami handbook entitled Papirozoo, which Pablo Fidalgo Lareo finds on a bookshelf at home, is the beginning of Habrás de ir a la guerra que empieza hoy (‘You’ll be in the war that begins today’). The beginning of a process of reconstruction of the history of Pablo’s family and of Spain. The beginning of an encounter with the fascinating figure of his great-uncle Giordano Lareo: imprisoned during the civil war, exiled after escaping execution, teacher, translator, treasurer of the Republic in exile, inventor of a sofa-bed, and author of the first origami handbook in Argentina. Giordano is brought to life in a performance that is both a first meeting and the last dance. Argentina, the land of exile, becomes the place where we prepare for war, safeguard our ideas, and adjust our eyes to the infinite landscape that will accompany us to the end.

PANOS commissions new plays for young people, inspired by the National Theatre’s Connections project. Now in its tenth year, a selection from over 30 shows produced all across the country by school and youth theatre groups will be presented in a festival at Culturgest.(…) Pablo Fidalgo Lareo creates an intimate assembly that questions education and the present, with words that can cleanse the bodies and give them back their purity and their sin. It is an instruction manual to be credible and change the system from within.

Santiago de Compostela. Cidade da Cultura.
4- 21 FEBRUARY 2015

This festival makes a difference. Born to sow and to place art above politics, to help building a new Galician theater. To create scenes, situations, art in action, movements, to favor natural processes, collaborations. It makes a difference in the ways of doing, pointing to a generational change. The scene anticipates world changing. It is and should be an assembly, meeting, catharsis. It wants to thrill and unite young artists who understand that the boundaries of theater, dance, performance art and action are becoming more diffuse. We have works that are not easy to reduce or explain, requiring the involvement of the viewer, they interpellate him to decide, so that he defines his position. We work with fragile materials that we must all take care. There are places where other rules work, where the event to which all creation is directed finally occurs. Places that are able to transform and create dialogue with each and every language, and thus learn to accept and stimulate what has yet no name. In Cidade da Cultura, Museum space opens infinite possibilities to rethink the place of the contemporary scene, to make critical awareness and positioning into a troubled and in transformation world. In these times in which the discourses of the institution and managers are gaining more prominence to the detriment of the works, the festival wants to focus again on the art. First the work, after the speech.
